Hello, my name is Alan. I'm the primary developer for FM Radio.  I'm responsible for the user interface, the library that allows me to create custom interfaces and our plugin architecture.  I had help with the piece (RSBlog.dll) that interfaces with the Radio server running on the PC and the Radio tool (radioStation.root) which FM Radio relies on to pass data back and forth from FM Radio to the Radio database.

The first version of Windows that I developed for was 1.3.  I guess that pretty much dates me. That's around the time
Apple was suing Microsoft over Windows 2.0 overlapped windows.  I wonder how many people remember that?

I worked for Micrografx during the time Microsoft was co-developing OS/2. Micrografx was the premier Windows development shop back then and Microsoft was eager to get us onboard with OS/2. Micrografx created the first application for the Windows environment, In*A*Vision.  At Micrografx I worked on "Mirrors" a porting toolkit that would allow Windows code to run on OS/2 Presentation Manager by simply recompiling the code.  I  was once invited to fly to California to speak at a Microsoft sponsored seminar about porting applications from Windows to OS/2.  Wow it's a totally different world now.

The best job I ever had was with Mind Path Technologies.  A small private company that started out doing AI development but eventually provided software for 3M products.  Lazer Ready Labels was bundled with 3M labels,  3M Presentation Software with their LCD projection panels, and finally the Mind Path Remote and Presentation F/X software.  We were eventually bought out by Proxima Corporation.  I'll never have a job like that one. What fun.  Alex, hope you're doing well.

You can still find the Presentation F/X software on the Internet. I found a simple download link here.  It was written for Windows 3.1 and many of the UI elements are custom widgets.  I just downloaded it and it ran fine on Windows XP.

Moving from Dallas back to Austin where I grew up I took a job with NetSpeed which was eventually acquired by Cisco.  There I wrote ViewRunner, a node manager application. Actually it was a Windows based application to manage a single DSLAM.

That's about where my successes with startups ended.  My next venture was working on an Internet Appliance the I-Opener by Netpliance. Maybe you heard of it?  I worked on the Mail and Address book applications developed under the QNX RTOS.

As you can see, my primary focus and interest has always been with user interface software and with consumer oriented software.  This isn't a complete work history.  I've worked for a total of 8 start-ups and a few big companies in between.

I plan to contribute to the posts that will appear at www.SocialDynamX.net and I just thought an introduction was in order.
